"SNAP", On or Off?
(Scroll down to see local Food Pantry information)
Breaking News: Today a federal judge ordered Trump to fully fund the SNAP program, full stop! But instead of making it so, Trump is appealing the judge's orders...so what's new for this President?
This food emergency didn't have to happen! With Republicans refusing to restore ACA aid and protecting billionaire tax breaks, Democrats are left to fight for affordable healthcare. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates about 3.8 million Americans would lose their health insurance each year from 2026-2034 if the enhanced subsidies aren’t extended. Now more than ever, our community’s generosity matters. Fayette County is home to several food pantries doing incredible work, and they could use your support.
Please support your local food pantries.

Food Bank Donation Suggestions (Monetary gifts welcome, too!)
Boxed milk is a treasure, as kids need it for cereal which they also get a lot of from donations. It is available in long shelf-life milk boxes “Parmalat” at HEB on isle 5 in La Grange.
Everyone donates Kraft Mac and Cheese in the box.
Pasta sauce and spaghetti noodles.
They cannot eat all the awesome canned veggies and soup unless you put a can opener in too or buy pop top cans.
Cooking oil is a luxury but needed for Rice a-Roni which they also get a lot of.
Spices or salt and pepper would be a real Christmas gift.
Tea bags and coffee make them feel like you care.
Sugar and flour are treats.
They fawn over fresh produce donated by farmers and grocery stores.
They rarely get fresh meat.
Tuna and crackers make a good lunch.
Hamburger Helper goes nowhere without ground beef.
They get lots of peanut butter and jelly but usually not sandwich bread.
Butter or margarine is nice too.
Eggs are a real commodity.
Cake mix and frosting makes it possible to make a child’s birthday cake.
Dishwashing and laundry detergent is very expensive and is always appreciated.
Feminine hygiene products are a luxury and women will cry over that.
Everyone loves Stove Top Stuffing.
Now On a Humorous Note...

Published in 1865, Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland is a satirical commentary on Victorian life. Alice follows a white rabbit down a rabbit hole and enters a dreamlike world encountering bizarre characters and events. As I see our administration led by the President, I feel like Alice “down the rabbit hole.” I am shocked and saddened that our Democracy and free speech are threatened.
The anthropomorphic (ascribing human form to a non-human) creatures resemble Trump’s minions. It won’t take much to imagine how these characters can be transformed into recognizable memes.
The White Rabbit-Pete Hegseth, Secretary of Defense. Quote from The White Rabbit - “I’m late, I’m late for a very important date!”
The Mad Hatter - Stephen Miller, White House Chief of Staff. Quote - “Twinkle, twinkle little bat. What a small world this is!”
Cheshire Cat - always smiling- Mike Johnson, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. Quote. “Most everyone is mad here. I’m not all there myself.”
The Duchess - Kristin Noem, Secretary of Homeland Security. Quote. “Speak roughly to your little boy and beat him when he sneezes.”
March Hare - Karoline Leavitt, White House Secretary. Quote- “I have an excellent idea! Let’s change the subject!”
Mock Turtle - Pam Bondi, Attorney General. Quote. “We called him Tortoise because he taught us.”
Hookah Smoking Caterpillar - Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Secretary of Health & Human Services. Quote. “One side will make you grow taller, and the other side will make you grow shorter.”
King of Hearts, a weak, pathetic figure - J. D. Vance, the Vice President and Marco Rubio, Secretary of State. Quote. “Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end. Then stop.”
Queen of Hearts - Trump. Quote. “Off with their heads. Enough said. Like Alice, “It would be nice if something made sense for a change.”
Supporting Libraries and the Freedom to Read
Sunday, November 16, 2025, 3:00 PM
Lyric Theatre, 120 E. South Main St., Flatonia
Hosted by: League of Women Voters South Central Texas
The League will hold a private screening of the documentary film The Librarians followed by a 30-minute community discussion.
Special guests will share insights on:
- The freedom to read and access information,
- The vital role libraries play in sustaining democracy, and
- How recent Texas legislation is shaping the work of our librarians.
This event is a wonderful opportunity to learn, ask questions, and share your thoughts about the future of libraries in Texas. If you care about education, access, and democracy, this is a conversation you won’t want to miss.
