A couple of weeks ago I had the privilege of attending the Texas Democratic Convention along side my fellow Fayette County Democratic Party delegates: Lane Gosnay, Kevin Obkirchner, Mary Van Der Loop, and Cecil Webster. (huge thanks to attendees) The energy was electrifying and contagious…to quote one of our allies, “it was more than a political gathering. It was a revival meeting for democracy.”
Thousands of Democrats from every corner of Texas came together getting inspiration from our Democratic candidates' speeches, attending workshops, and swapping ideas to turn Texas Blue.
This convention gave us something we’ve been missing for a while…Hope. It also gave us Faith in our party leaders to carry us forward but faith requires action on our part.
Here is a recap of the convention that I hope inspires you to take action.
My term as FCDP Chair ended June 14, 2026. I always considered myself apolitical before becoming involved with the Fayette County Democratic Party… My tipping point was the 2016 Presidential election. (It’s still hard for me to believe such a buffoon was elected legitimately). I accepted the role as chair with much trepidation because I had no political experience but thankfully, the Texas Democratic Chair Association (TDCCA) is a great organization of county chairs that I was able to learn from. I also had a core group of people who always lifted me up. I was hoping that someone would step forward and accept the role as FCDP chair but as of today, the position is still vacant. In addtion to needing a County Chair, there are 8 precinct chairs open. If you don't want to be a face, there are plenty of opportunities to work behind the scenes to help our county party. What will be your tipping point to want to take action?
